The President of the Republic H.E. Ilir Meta participated in the solemn ceremony on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of Albania’s Independence, which took place at the Flag Square and the Monument of Independence in Vlora.

The National Flag was ceremonially raised at the Flag Square in the presence of the President of the Republic, the Speaker of the Assembly and the Prime Minister, where a minute of silence was held in honor of the lives lost in the earthquake that struck the country.

Afterwards, the President of the Republic paid homage, laid a crown of flowers and bowed with reverence in front of the tomb of Ismail Qemali.

On the Day of the Flag and Independence of Albania, President Meta stated:

“Today is not a day to celebrate, but it is a day to honor our National Flag, the Independence Day and the creation of our state.

The best honor we can give to this November 28th and to all the sacrifices of our Independence Fathers, who went through harder and much more difficult trials, to guarantee the survival of the nation and the creation of the state, is for us to continue to commit ourselves to healing, as soon as possible. the wounds of all those families who have been severely damaged by the earthquake.

At the same time, we must be as close as possible to all those families that have lost their dearest relatives and loved ones these days, in order to cope with this pain, but also to look confidently into the future in order that all Albanian families and their children, who were directly affected by the earthquake and are suffering its aftermath, to resume the normal life as soon as possible. ”

In addition, President Meta emphasized that:

“Politics must always be together for the most important issues of our country, of our state, of our people and our social and democratic coexistence. All the more, to fulfill a mission that we have not been able to come close to in the recent years, that of Albania’s EU membership, which is an aspiration of all Albanian citizens, all political forces and our entire nation. “.
