The President of the Republic, H. E. Mr. Ilir Meta visited the terrain tonight and followed closely the search and rescue operations being carried out in one of the quake-damaged buildings in neighborhood no. 6 in Durres.
The Head of State was accompanied by the Speaker of the Parliament of Northern Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferri, the Deputy Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia, Mr. Bujar Osmani, the President of BDI, Mr. Ali Ahmeti, as well as representatives of the local government.
President Meta also met with specialized civil emergency forces, coming from Northern Macedonia, contributing to overcoming the effects of this natural disaster, which are stationed at the Naim Frasheri High School.
In meeting with them, the President stated:
“I’m here to thank you all for the hard work you have done these two days, for which you have the highest praise. I have heard the best words from the Durres and Albanian authorities who have been following this dramatic emergency situation closely.
Thank you so much for the sacrifices you have made and that you have put your life at risk in the rescue operations, and we will never forget your contribution!
This is an important moment of demonstration of solidarity between our two countries, and an indicator of cooperation in the field of civil emergencies.
Your qualification and experience have been very obvious, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude for these two days and two nights you have spent here in the most difficult conditions, we will never forget such brotherly help and solidarity .
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to President Pendarovski, Prime Minister Zaev and all the representatives of Northern Macedonia’s politics who have been with us from the beginning and continue to be with us in facing this great disaster and these grave consequences, as you have seen and know better than anyone else. ”
The Head of BDI, Ali Ahmeti said: “I would like to greet all of you here, rescuers! I am here with the Speaker of the Parliament, with the Deputy Prime Minister, with Members of Parliament, to encourage you for your noble mission. We hope that there will be no more such tragedies, but these are unpredictable developments and we must be prepared.
I was heartbroken when I heard in the Albanian media about your work and sacrifice, I was really proud to receive the news that you have saved lives, and I wish everyone a quick recovery and may God help you in your mission! “
