15 July 2020 President Meta holds a meeting with the Leader of the United Opposition, Mr. Lulzim Basha
The President of the Republic, H.E. Ilir Meta received today in a meeting the Leader of the United Opposition, Mr. Lulzim Basha.
The President of the Republic welcomed opposition’s stance to return to institutions and to serve to country’s stability and European future.
The Head of State also welcomed opposition’s responsible behavior during the pandemic and its constructive contribution during the meetings of the National Security Council related to its management.
President Meta particularly noted the fact that opposition restrained itself from falling into the trap set with the demolition of the National Theatre. The President also observed that opposition did not persist in conditioning an agreement with a transitional government, which enabled the accomplishment of 5 June Agreement, welcomed by all strategic partners of the country.
The Head of State said that all Albanians are united around their language, flag and national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu, as well as around the Constitution and the European future of the country.
The President of the Republic asked Mr. Basha to continue to stay faithful to 5 June Agreement, regardless of hopeless efforts to undermine the Constitution, warning that all those who act against the European future of the country will be held directly and individually accountable.
President Meta repeated his call to duly implement without delay the 5 June Agreement, paving the way to implementing the 15 priorities to commencing accession negotiations during the German Presidency of the EU.
The Head of State asked that all efforts to undermine this process with the effect to reversing for the first time in Albania’s history an agreement reached with international mediation, be immediately abandoned.
