President Meta holds a work meeting with the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mrs. Ogerta Manastirliu

President of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Ilir Meta held today a work meeting at his request with the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mrs. Ogerta Manastirliu, for the current challenges of coping with COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Manastirliu informed President Meta that in accordance with the drafted strategy and proposals of the Technical Committee of Experts, measures have been taken to provide personal protective equipment, increase testing capacity, hospital capacity and human resources.

“The strategy we are pursuing needs the cooperation of citizens to cope with the situation caused as a result of COVID-19. Only through the implementation of measures and protocols, through personal example, will we be able to succeed together, even at this stage of pandemic “, – said Minister Manastirliu.

After assuring the Minister for the solidarity and his full support for health institutions, the Head of State expressed gratitude and appreciation to all doctors, nurses and support staff who are serving with professionalism and maximum commitment on the front line.

President Meta stressed the importance of supporting the health sector with the adequate budget, as well as the need to increase protective measures for doctors.

The Head of State appealed to the importance of raising the awareness of the citizens for the observance of the instructions made public, for the preservation of the physical distances and the wearing of the masks, especially with the approach of the peak of the new tourist season.

In this context, President Meta and Minister Manastirliu stressed the need for continued coordination between central and local authorities.

The Head of State also underlined the need to strengthen close cooperation with all neighboring countries to take measures to prevent and further spread of COVID-19, in order to reopen land borders as soon as possible.

President Meta and Minister Manastirliu stressed that “it is vital to increase the efficiency of safeguards through awareness, transparency, inclusiveness and increasing the spirit of cooperation, as the only major objective should be to protect the health of citizens and the national economy.”
