Spiro KOÇI joined the Albanian diplomatic service in 1993. Throughout his diplomatic career has held numerous high-ranking positions both at home and abroad.
From 2010 to 2015, Mr. Koçi served as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Albania to the UN Office in Vienna, and to the UNODC, UNIDO, IAEA, CTBTO, OSCE and IACA, where he led a number of fora and groups in the frame of the UN and the OSCE. His important role in the Helsinki 40+ Process and in the decision-making on the deployment of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine, are few examples that demonstrate his overall active contribution in promoting the role of Albania in peace and security processes in Europe and the Balkans.
As the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Serbia, in the period 2007-2008, Mr. Koçi had closely followed the “Ahtissari” negotiations on the future status of Kosovo, which culminated with its independence in 2008.
Ambassador Koçi has also served in various senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tirana. In these positions, inter alia, he has played an active role as part of the official delegations in a series of Summits and Ministerial Meetings, which have marked the developments on the Euro Atlantic integration processes of Albania and the Western Balkans.
From 2015 until May 2019, Spiro Koçi served at senior level positions at the Headquarter of the Albanian State Intelligence Service (SHISH).
In 2019, Ambassador Koçi joined the Cabinet of the President of the Republic as Diplomatic Adviser. As of 16 November 2020, he is appointed National Security Adviser to the President of the Republic of Albania.
Ambassador Koçi has been graduated from the Department of Special Physics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Tirana. He holds a Master on Nuclear Physics from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Debrecen, Hungary. Following his diplomatic career, Mr. Koçi has attended numerus postgraduate courses on diplomacy and security studies, inter alia, at the Headquarter of UN in New York (1993); the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (1994), the “George C. Marshall” European Centre for Security Studies, Garmisch-Partenkirschen, Germany (1995, 2000 and 2018), etc.
Ambassador Spiro Koçi is one of the founder members of the Council of Albanian Ambassadors.
Spiro Koçi is married to Mrs. Dolores Koçi and is father of two daughters, Katerina and Laura.
